État de la populationExpert
Not much is known about the subpopulations in Nigeria and Benin. C. Dalzell (pers. comm.) reported that subpopulations in Ghana were large and healthy. It seems to number at least 10,000 plants.

Description complète des menacesExpert
This species may be affected by too frequent fires which could prevent seedling growth. Plants are also removed from the wild by collectors. Habitat destruction due to agriculture and infrastructure development is also contributing to decline in this species, with part of the population lost due to flooding when the Volga dam was built.

Habitats préférentiels (classification IUCN)

  • 2_1Savanna - Dry
  • 6Rocky areas (eg. inland cliffs, mountain peaks)
Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species is listed in Appendix I of the CITES Appendices. It is unknown whether any subpopulations occur in formally protected areas. Identification of suitable sites for the formal protection of this species is needed. An education and awareness programme as well as the long-term monitoring of subpopulations will support the conservation of this species.
