Grazing and trampling by the livestock and the establishment of conifer plantations in some sites are destroying the grassy habitat and locally even leads to complete habitat loss. This results in a decline in the extent and quality of the species' habitat.

Six out of the eight collection sites occur outside protected areas, and are under great threat of habitat loss. Two sites lie within the Kibira National Park in Burundi. The specimen from Tanzania was collected near the Kitulo Plateau National Park in which it might well be present.
