Six subpopulations of this species are protected in the Marojejy National Park, Anjanaharibe-Sud Special Reserve, Manongarivo Special Reserve, Andringitra National Park, Ivohibe Special Reserve, Midongy du Sud National Park, Ranomafana National Park, Zahamena National Park and Analamazaotra-Périnet Special Reserve. This species is also included in Appendix II of CITES.
