This is a common species of alpine grasslands (Zhengyi et al. 2006, Sultana et al. 2007). In parts of the range subpopulations may have disappeared due to overgrazing. The size and dynamics of the population are unknown.

The alpine zones in the region have been less affected by humans in comparison to the lowland ecosystems. In parts of its range, e.g., some areas of Iran, the taxon is reported to have disappeared due to overgrazing (Noroozi et al. 2008). Overgrazing is not thought however to threaten the overall survival of this wide ranging, very common species.

This species has been collected within several conservation units throughout its range such as Manass Wildlife Refuge in Kyrgyzstan and Nuristan National Park in Afghanistan. Seeds have yet to be collected for ex situ conservation effort. It is not known to occur in any Botanical Garden.
