The population of Aerangis megaphylla is currently thought to decrease since the species occurs around a crater lake in a small island that is easily accessible by tourists and local residents. Its number of individuals is not known and cannot be estimated since the species is an epiphyte.

The habitat of the species (the low- and mid-altitude forest) is subject to deforestation for shifting agriculture. The current threat known for the species is urbanization, due to the tourist activity that can be developed around the lake.
